Boulder City was originally populated by workers who came to the area to build the Hoover Dam and needed to live close to the worksite. The government was the first to build housing for these workers who were living by the Colorado River in makeshift tents. Construction of homes didn’t start till the year after construction started on the Hoover Dam.
